I am making a programming site called SpoCore.com (http://steven.spocore.com). My problem is i am not the most artistic person when it comes to web graphics or creativity. So above you can see the current layout i am using, but i am also making a new one because the above one is no good. the one i am currently making can be found here (http://steven.spocore.com/layout/layout.html). I would like feedback on either of the layouts please.

I like the older design a little more. They both look a little cartoon-ish. They don't look modern. I think if you just make the left menu bar less boxy and less blue it'll look a lot better.

I'm not a big fan of the colours in the newer version.
The older version's a lot easier on the eyes.
I also think the logo needs some improvement, it looks out of place with the shadow. And this might be a pet peave of mine, but I think the text goes to far to the right side of the screen (on the older one) in comparison to how far it is from the menu on the left. Doesn't look balanced.

Ok, with every ones feedback i decided to stick with the blue color scheme. I also made a couple adjustments to make it seem less cartoonish. What do you all think now?

As for the boxy thing, how would you suggest making it less boxy?

I like the top gradient, still not a fan of the shadow on the logo.
The text on the menu headings isn't aligned vertically properly.
And the banner still is green on IE7.

Fixed the IE7 problem. As for the shadow i will have to think about removing that. I kind of liked it, any one else got a opinion on the shadow?

I'd have another font on the banner to make it less cartoony, use something more straight, these letters are too round imho.

Same goes for the background images of "Main menu", "Resources" etc. they have a gradient on them, and it makes them look round = cartoonish in my opinion.

And same goes for those tutorial and articles buttons.

The footer should be in a smaller font, or should be in it's own container.

Other than that, it's nice.
