How can i create a rule that when mouse hovers over part of picture, where not all is displayed just a sectionof that images, the piece hidden is displayed. say a button, top part of image is button one colour bottom another colour then when mouse hovers we see button as a diffrent colour.

Or are you talking about hotspots on an image, like an imagemap?

I, however, prefer to have the images above each other, not next to each other because you would save some CSS then (equal height but different width).
