View Full Version : Images disappear

Hi Folks,

I' m new to CSS and this Forum.

On Wednesday I had set-up a website home page with an external CSS and the only problem was it would not display the background image for the body.

This morning I was going to search for the problem, since it worked initially and then disappeared. But, neither IE or FF will display any of the images on the web page now. However, the editor Alleycode does show the images in the Synchro View. Plus, FF did not display the Alt Text for the graphics, when they were displayed.

Here is the external css:

margin: 0;
background-image: url ("/images/3d.gif");

border:solid #000000;
border-width:2px 0px;
margin:40px 0 0 0;

position: absolute;
top: 99px;
left: 20px;
width: 180px;
border: 2px solid #000000;
background: #ffffff;
color: #333333;
margin: 0px;
padding: 0px;
height: 600px;

margin: 20px 20px 20px 220px;
border: 2px solid #000000;
background: #ffffff;
color: #333333;
padding: 20px;
position :relative;

Here is the index.htm code:

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

Hi there AndeAnderson,

and a warm welcome to these forums. ;)

the problem is caused by having white space between the url and the (...

background-image: url ("/images/3d.gif");
should be...

background-image: url(/images/3d.gif);
Also note that the quotation marks may also cause problems in some browsers, and are not required.

Thanks coothead. It's those little things which will kill me.

Now all I have to do is figure out why FF will not show the images when I am inside the network. IE started showing them, for now.

The Editor I'm using is Alleycode and it works pretty well. :rolleyes:

I feel so ashamed. The images are not loading because I am typing in a domain name when I need to type in the internal IP Address instead. :o
