View Full Version : Contact form formatting issues

Hey all,

I'm not really sure where to put this... the file in question is a Perl script, but my questions have to do with some CSS formatting in that script, so I'll try here.

I downladed the Perl contact form from here (http://ostermiller.org/contactform/), and I am trying to format it to fit my site. I have a text declaration:

text { font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 9pt; font-weight: 500; color: #303030}

which works in Firefox, but Internet Explorer doesn't "see" it. Also, the width of the boxes is controlled by

.cf_textentry { min-width:300px; width:99%; max-width:600px; width:expression(document.body.clientWidth>600?"600px":"auto");}

but, again, IE doesn't see that. How can I fix this?

(yes, I know the site isn't validated. I'm working on that.)

I'm also trying to get rid of the border around the contact form... in case anyone can figure out where that is being declared. I've looked for "border" but it's not in the document.

<iframe src="contact.pl" width="450" height="500" border="0" frameborder="0">

You dont need the expresion since your loadin ginto an Iframe with a fixed width. The I frame will never resize so neither will the page being loaded into it.

on the "text" issue. text isn't a selector. not sure why FF does it. it also appears the text is only in the css as textarea but not reflected like that in your html.

this all seems a little too complicated really. making a form isn't hard. securing one is more difficult but there are a lot of rescources for that.

Okay, I put that contact form in. I'm having problems with the security though--I had to comment out three spam catchers before it would let me send any messages. Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks for all your help so far! :)

I see your using the Green Beast one. Did you try it before you took anythign out of the code. I see your's in modified from the "whole" form. Just curious. Just making sure you didn' tchange any variable along the way.

read down through it. The version to download should include all fixes but none the less.

Can't really help on the back end stuff. I can't see your php sode through a link. Best option is to rebuild the page using the whole form from the download and just make sure it works liek that. then take out one piece at a time. Somethings are required so if you take them out of the HTML you need to make sure to take the appropriatte item out of the php processor as well or it will error.

Okay, I'll do that (once finals are over, probably)... thanks again for helping.

New problem--I moved all my files from a /test/ directory to the root, and now the contact form is broken. I get a 404 error when I try to submit a message:

Not Found
The requested URL /test/MMPerspectives.com_files/contact_form/gbcf_form.php was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I can't figure out where in the PHP files this is being set... there is no URL declared that I can see. Can anybody help me with this?

Whoops--my bad. I'd forgotten to update the PHP include command...
