View Full Version : Page Blank in IE6

This is the strangest thing..but I'm not a css expert either, so hopefully someone can help me mend my ways...

I recently created a flash show case for my husband and his partner's site. It was more or less a private page so there is no link from the main site. The site is really very simple - designed using a simple linked style sheet, background image and multiple flash modules.

Now when you view the site in IE - the page is just blank!! No errors Just blank, but FireFox, Netscape, Opera - just fine. The only way I could get the site to view in IE was to pull the styles in line into the header. Then it's perfect, but in the other browsers it pukes!!! So I had to create two versions - one for IE and one for the rest of the world which is really awful. Can someone tell me what in the world I did wrong here

Here's the link for IE http://damoneentertainment.com/presentation/index2.html

for the rest of the browser world this works fine - http://damoneentertainment.com/presentation

Also for the future - how do I disguise urls that I want to post - HTML is marked off on my screen for posting and I really don't like search engines grabbing my URLs that I'm referring to in posts.

Thanks in advance for enlightenment - I'm sure there is something really simple... but I'll be honest - I've never, ever had this happen before.

You have multiple opening style tags. Remove the one in bold and it should work for IE, now your external stylesheet would work as well. To avoid simple problems like these all you have to do is validate your code (http://validator.w3.org) and make it free of errors.

<TITLE>Damone Entertainment Global - Our Artists</TITLE>
<META HTTP-EQUIV="Content-Type" CONTENT="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
<style type="text/css">
<link href="style.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css">
<!-- ImageReady Styles (site.psd) -->
<STYLE TYPE="text/css">
BTW I'm getting a horizontal scrollbar on FF1.5.0.7 for PC. As for your urls not posting some people put spaces in their urls and stuff.

Thanks so much... I had to get this to them in less than 24 hrs... which included building all the flash, encrypting the videos and coming up with a style... I was just brain dead by the time I laid out the html.. can't imagine how I missed that....LOL

Thanks so much... I'll check the scroll bars... but due to the size of some of the videos... we may be "stuck with them" but I'll see what I can do to resize it a bit.

Thanks again...

Ok, I deleted the tag.. and it made no difference - that page still doesn't work for FF. Again ... if you look at my post - index2.html is FOR IE - and IE views just fine. index.html is set for FireFox ..etc. What my real question is - is why can't IE see index.html ?

Here's the code for the page that IE see as blank - ../presentation/index.html -

<style type="text/css">
<link href="style.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"media="screen">

<div id="navcontainer">
<ul id="navlist">
<li id="active"><a href="index.php">DEG Home</a></li>
<li id="active"><a href="shows.html">DEG Live Shows Div.</a></li>

<div id="module_1"><object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,29,0" width="700" height="441">
<param name="movie" value="http://damoneentertainment.com/presentation/flash/deg2.swf">
<param name="quality" value="high">
<embed src="http://damoneentertainment.com/presentation/flash/deg2.swf" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="785" height="441"></embed>
<div id="module_2"></div>
<div id="footer"></div>

and here is the style sheet code:

body {
background-color: #000000;
background-image: url(images/bkgrnd.gif);
background-repeat: no-repeat;
margin-left: 0px;
margin-top: 0px;

td,tr,p,div {
font-family: Garmond, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif;
font-size: 10px;
text-decoration: none;
color: #666666;

#navcontainer { width: 200px;

#navcontainer ul
list-style-type: none;
font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;

#navcontainer a

display: block;
padding: 3px;
width: 125px;
background-color: #999999;
border-bottom: 1px solid #eee;}

#navcontainer a:link, #navlist a:visited
color: #EEE;
text-decoration: none;

#navcontainer a:hover
background-color: #d9d9d9;
color: #000000;

#module_1 {

Thanks again for your help... I'm also going to check the validation link.

(that's funny... I see that when I save this code... it shows a big grin right in the middle of the flash code...trust me .. that isn't there)

Boy... now index2.html has lost it's background image and I've removed all the changes that I tried... I'm really in trouble now... and can't figure out what is going on...

Thanks.. I overlooked your bolded comment. It is now working in all browsers.

Thanks again for you help and patience.
