    Need help manipulating xml data

    I am dealing with large xml files containing fitment data for auto parts. The xml files are provided to me by the parts manufacturer. I am having a difficult time manipulating the data in a specific file and need advice.

    I am new to this xml stuff in this magnitude so forgive me if I'm asking stupid questions.

    Normally I manipulate the data in excel to get it into a format that works with my data. I also use notepad++

    See below for an example of the data as I get it. As you can see there is a lot of information commented out. I need to be able to remove all of the id comments from the data, uncomment all of the data thats been commented out and get end tags on the end of each line to make the data usable. I realize I can do a lot of this with find/replace. I am unaware of a string to put in the find box to universally remove all of the id tags and am not sure how to insert the end tags so that it is usable.

    Is anyone aware of a good program that I can use to manipulate this data and be able to work it into a format that I can work with? I feel like I am missing something here really simple but cannot figure it out. Any assistance is much appreciated.

    Code:
     <App action="A" id="1">
              <BaseVehicle id="3"/>   <!-- 1995; Suzuki; Esteem -->
              <SubModel id="4"/>   <!-- GL -->
              <EngineBase id="2"/>   <!-- L4; 1.6L; ; 1590cc; 97cid -->
              <Note>Rear Converter; Outlet</Note>
              <Qty>1</Qty>
              <PartType id="5836"/>  <!-- Exhaust Pipe Flange Gasket -->
              <Part>256-214</Part>
           </App>
           <App action="A" id="2">
              <BaseVehicle id="3"/>   <!-- 1995; Suzuki; Esteem -->
              <SubModel id="5"/>   <!-- GLX -->
              <EngineBase id="2"/>   <!-- L4; 1.6L; ; 1590cc; 97cid -->
              <Note>Rear Converter; Outlet</Note>
              <Qty>1</Qty>
              <PartType id="5836"/>  <!-- Exhaust Pipe Flange Gasket -->
              <Part>256-214</Part>
           </App>

    I agree, you're missing something. What's not there is a bunch of small look-up tables that contain the stuff from the comments. A table that lists vehicle id's and their names, sub-models, textual descriptions of part numbers, etc. If you can't get these from the same place this data comes from, I can't imagine sourcing them anywhere else. Once you have that data, I'd assume you'd load all this into a database and use database tools, rather than excel, to manipulate it.

    The ids refer to the info from the other dbs but that info is what is commented out. It seems like it would be much easier just to manipulate this the way that I need it instead of connecting it to multiple other db's to retrieve the reference info when it is already in this file.
