    Working on a site design

    Hey everyone,

I have a possible chance of building a site for someone and thought I might develope a mock site for the owner to look at.

I thought I would start this thread so that I could show you guys what I come up with and you could tell me "yay" or "nay". I have a few layout designs brewing but this is the simplest one.

Its in the very very early stages of design. If fact the only think that I do like is the look of the company name. The rest is very....well...incomplete.

There general store colors kinda a hunter green so I was trying to keep in that color tone but its hard.

    Hi,
Here's a list of things you could try:
    1. Improve the smoothness of the title font - its very jagged at the moment
    2. Try it without gradients. A solid colour banner background may look better...also you could then put Country Store in white which would blend in better.
    3. If you want to keep the button style as it is then try rounding the left-hand edge.
    4. Try and keep a common 'theme' throughout. Your banner font and your link font feel like they should be in two separate sites.

    Hope this helps

    Here is another concept:

In this one I would either go with the nav bars on the left or just have the nav menu thats in the black bar below the header. I am just showing both for feedback sake.

    thanks,

just try to make the font look better. it is good to use one of the system fonts. I like the most the Arial - because it is readable at any size!!!!!

if you need anything, just ask!

Ok the blue one is growing on me so I decided to scale it down some. so it fits in an 800px width browser.

Here is what is looks like so far....

I have a few questions though about specific areas. Ill list them below.

1.) Shopping Cart Area (Which looks better)
    OR

2.) The "Title" for individual pages. (Which looks better)
    OR

3.) the "Categories" area is kinda bland. Would it be best to leave it simple looking like it is now?

4.) The individual Items for sale (boxes), does the layout work for you.

5.) Any other constructive criticism, comments or ideas are more then welcome.

    thanks,

    Gingham

Personally I think it's still looking way too high tech and glassy...

Try a bit of Gingham, and maybe a bit of Muslin, on there somewhere - maybe worked into the header? I think it would fit quite nicely with the products.

    Kind regards,

    Gary

Much improved on the original...nice one. Things that you could improve on are the 'details' and 'Add To Cart' buttons...just get rid of the pattern on them and maybe make the font normal instead of bold. You could also experiment with the bits of background that are black...maybe try brighter colours.

Wow! Looking at the original and then the final design - big difference (for the better). I like the general look and feel but here are my suggestions...

-the box around the "shop online" as suggested above

thats pretty much it for now - looks good! i am glad that you changed the links from "stuff" and "more stuff" - those were very unprofessional

    10/10

Here is another version. Same layout just adjusted the colors to fit a "Country Store" theme a little better. Although it has a slight "Go ARMY" / "Camo" appeal to it.

I like this one the best so far. It actually looks like the inside of the store.

I do have a few dilemas though. The actual seperate shopping items colors. Which background do you all like better the "black" or "beige". (Wife likes the black, )

Also the header logo "Betty's Country Store" is actually a different inner green than the rest of the layout, only because the other green looks almost black to me on my 90's monitor.

This is the image with the actually matching green color below hex value #003300...

This is another slightly different green that might match a little better, hex value #006633

    thanks again,

Isi it possible to soften the gradient. iT would look better. The fonts are.. BIG. Well yes ARIAL and BIG, i got no problem with it just that the price were first to caught my eyes. Anyway, the last pic is better.

Yes the gradient will be softened in the final render that goes online. I just kept the filesize to 80% and used a websnapped .gif file so it would be smaller for your viewing pleasure. The final background will actually be a 100% .jpg file for the gradient background.

I thought about using a comic sans serif as some of the font because their labeling on their various bottled goods looks like some sort of comic sans serif or Andy print. It definently adds more character and country to the look of things I just opted for arial as suggested because of I wasnt sure how the other fonts would render in mac/windows/unix

well definitely... a mac renders fonts better than any other platforms. ARIAL is safe anyway.

Ok here are a few more. These will be the last variations. On these I switch the categories area with the pic area and altered some colors.

So any last suggestions before I show them to my client would be helpful.

Overall I have 8 variations using two color schemes, and 1 major layout that can be altered to their specifications.

    Thanks once again,
