An objective opinion is needed! :)

    Hello everybody,

Here is the link to my first relatively decent creation. I won't bother you by explaining how new to both web design and web development I am because you'll figure that out as soon as you see the site. After the short time that I've been working on some pages I decided that I was rather a coder than a designer. Such notions as creativity, imagination, fantasy are foreign to my nature. However I believe that eventually I could find my client who would be after rather something clear and simple than after something errr sophisticated / original

Well anyway, I had a look at the pages that are being discussed here and I realised that mine is wayyy too plain. Still I'd like to ask you to have a look at it and to tell me what you think (is there a spark?? lol). Please be honest!!

    Irina

    Hi Irina

I think the content looks and works ok... however, the background colour (maroon) tends to be a bit dominating to me. With a screen resolution of 800 x 600 it looks ok but at 1024 x 786 and above there is too much maroon. Maybe experimenting with shades of grey or the web safe colours would help. Here is a link http://www.web-source.net/216_color_chart.htm

Hope i didn't offend, but you did say be honest...

the maroon is a bit fierce, not awful mind just a bit much

I quite like it apart from that although I find the depth of the page a bit annoying, I like to see the whole page at once or to know that it scrolls on and on, to have to scroll down for just a bit irritates me, why not get it all up on a singlwe screen?

And I don't like that picture, not sure about the cutout and really don't like the shadow, too much of it all the way around the image look horrid and it's too dark/strong

apart from that, quite like it, I'm a less is more man myself

It's simple and functional. That's great.

I'd try to make some of your initial images plain text though. Everything that initially loads is graphics, which loads fast for me but maybe not for our dial-up friends.

8 seconds to load via DSL, which is bad news for dialup. Transmitted data is not huge, but, considering there's perhaps a couple hundred characters of actual information being conveyed...

Rendering text as graphics gives you total control. Except you don't control the end user's screen res, so it comes out pretty unreadable on things like a 1600x1200 monitor, Large Fonts. The fonts also seem to come with full jaggies -- was that intentional?

Unless aiming to get hired by 20-something bosses, I would probably focus on making my C.V. readable first, well-written and substantive second, and stylish last. But hey, it's been a decade since I worked for anybody but me, so what do I know? :-)

Thank you very much for your time and consideration guys, much appreciated

The picture: honestly it is done the best I possibly could! lol The background was quite a challenge - just black from one side, and with a serious defect from another, yet it was the first photo I've ever cropped (will it do as an excuse? )

The graphic images: first the small confession - I liked the font (Calligraphic) And originally the only image was this photo but when I uploaded the site there was a great disappointment for me since it seems the font is quite rare and there were only few people able to see the site the way I meant it to be seen
