Cool Your Views - Image Hosting

    Hi there,

A friend of mine and myself are working on a new site aimed at offering free and paid image hosting accounts. I know there are many sites out there offering this but we are prepared to work hard to get our share of the many sign ups that happen daily even if it is just for free accounts. We certainly aren't expecting miracles.

Anyway I'd be very grateful if you could check out the site and either post back your comments here or send them to us via the contact page on the site. The site can be found at http://www.iphotosolutions.co.uk and I hope you like it.

Some features currently aren't available and we have a few more ideas in the pipelines such as image randomisers etc. Also please note that whilst the site might look like it's live we are in testing stages so any pictures uploaded are likely to be deleted when we do launch.

    Thanks
    Russ

I like the design. However I'd prefer to see the text under the headings to be darker seeing as it's light grey and the main background colour is white.

I believe it will be chanced shortly. Many people have said the same thing and I'm beginning to agree

    Thanks for the feedback

I'm curious how such a service is profitable... I mean, how do you get money from the free users? Strange.

As for critiquing it, I'd say the light grey text needs to be darker. There's no sense having it there otherwise. Low-contrast monitors may not show it at all (or it won't be legible).

Also, I'd switch the link style to bold and coloured as opposed to just underlined (I'd remove the underline too).

first we have no intention of just having paid accounts. we'd be waiting forever for the first person to sign up. the main idea of a free account is to offer people a quick way to host an image with no strings attached. i guess you could look at it as a taster. if they liked it they could move up to the premium package.

this is being worked on at the moment and should be implemented shortly.

    taken note of this suggestion

    Not digging, surface look only.

I think the footer links would look better if they were the same blue as the banner image, assuming that'll be static (then hover/focus/active black). If not, disregard, or make the CSS change with the banner using whatever will be your image randomizer. The silver/light gray text: yep, that needs to be changed for sure. I can read it, but I have a great monitor. It wouldn't even be seen on another monitor I happen to own. The "Browse" button needs styling: 2px gray border, banner-blue background, white text; 2px black border hover/focus/active.

The concept is simple enough. And there is money to be made, especially if it takes off. Google can help I suppose, lol. And you can't forget [read: count on] donations.

The site has appeal (though it's slightly too wide for a fixed-width site). It's nice. Clean. I like it. Hopefully it works out as you hope.

    Good luck!
    Mike

You're saving certain graphics as .jpg's. Learn about image compression. They'd be better off being either png's or gif's. Otherwise it's a really really nice design and I really like it

And isn't "IPhoto" or "iPhoto" a trademark of Apple?

ah see originally we were going to call it iphoto but then we remembered that apple had iphoto so we went with iphoto solutions. i don't think it will be a problem.

thanks for the comments so far.
