    F1 Unleashed...

    http://f1unleashed.com/

I'm primarily wanting reviews of the championships page, however, feel free to comment on everything else...

    Too wide

I'm not too keen on the ultra-wide tables; nor do I find the scrollbars very appealing, or necessary for that matter. A nice thing about a table like the ones you've made is that you can oversee a certain amount of information in one glance, see trends, etc; having to scroll pretty much destroys that.
See if you can reduce the columns' widths, if necessary by for example abbreviating the countries' names (Aus., Mal., Bahr., etc.); you could add a tooltip to the names if someone wishes to see the full name, and you could add the track name to the full name as well.
Better still: avid F1 fans might even identify a race sooner by the track it was held on then by country; then again, tracks like "Francorchamps" won't help a lot in reducing column width... oh well, just a thought.
By the way: how about that last race on Monza? Pretty impressive performances by our "red" friends, not?

Considering the rest of the site: it is a convention to call the home page "home"; this leads many of your visitors to start looking in vain for a home page (which is called "news"). Either way have the logo double up as a link back to the home/news page.
Lastly, see if you can reduce the line length on the home/news page, for example by adding lots of margin; lines this long are unpleasant to read.
    Regards,
    Ronald.

And even worse if you put in the full "Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps"

Well, I've changed the News page, changed the header.

Also, there's no need for anyone to comment on the drivers page, because that is being completely redone.

As for the F2004's at Monza, I loved how MS said "Was I only 15th? I thought I was last overall." at the press conference after the race, but his comeback was classic MS...

I've now got a gap between the Logo/Banner and the NavBar, it happened after I changed the doctype from XHTML 1.0 Trans to XHTML 1.1

    Gap?

Oh? I didn't see one, using IR6.0 on Win2000... I haven't looked at your CSS, but it may be a margin/padding/height issue.

Maybe it's just one of those things which is only in standard compliant browers

OK, I've redone the header/footer to solve the crowding problem in the footer, what do you think now?

On-F1: I hate the Japanese GP TV Director... We missed all the crashes... espisally the Rubens - David crash... but RB coming into the pits at the same time as MS's scheduled stop... only Ferrari could've done that

    Tiny text

Er... the navigation text size is tiny... the stuff on the right in the header drops below legibility. I know I can resize it, but that yields really big text; you might want to try something closer to the body text size (which is fine in my usual settings).

Although not recently updated (I guess it's still valid), Owen Briggs wrote an article about text sizing using a combination of ems and percentages.
I don't know what you use, but his method yields text sizes that are sort of similar across a wide variety of browsers; you may want to give it a try.
    Regards,
    Ronald.

I don't like that there's a margin around your header. Nor that your navigation bar's background colour is different than the background colour of its parent.

As for the tables, the borders are far too distracing, and your cells with numbers in them ought to be horizontally centered I think. But definately lose the 1px border between columns.

Another thing I'd suggest is that you only scroll the data portion of the table. That is, leave row titles static so when you scroll horizontally, you don't forget which row was which racer and have to scroll back to remind yourself, you know?

Hmm... What browser are you using? It looks fine in all mine, for reference, the main font size is 0.9375em, and the smaller text on the right is 0.75em...

As for the background... strange... looks fine for me... I'll try and find what's causing that...

Ouch man that's a wide, wide table. I'll agree with Ronald regarding the scrollbars and the wideness. I'd also go with abbreviated names for the countries because the data in the cells is all just numerical so the width of each column could be so much thinner if it weren't for the long names.

Also, on smaller screens even with the abbreviated names it's gonna be a struggle fitting it all in. When a user scrolls along (using your scrollbars or their own if you get rid of them) they're gonna lose the name of the driver off the left of their screen. So... How about putting the driver names in the middle or repeating them somewhere or something? It's just a thought.

That site does look much better than it used to, good job

My problem with vertical text is keeping the text the same size (0.9375em) as the horizontal even if a user selects a different size for em...

    Side-thought: Use <abbr> tags with JKD's IE <abbr> hack...

That's what _I_ said... I've had to design tables much wider than these, and I simply used a two column table, nested the data in the second column and set its parent cell to overflow: auto.

Great minds think alike... so do stupid ones for that matter...

Yeah thats a good way of doing it, having it set so only have that side scroll, nice one.

Give it a try error404 and see if its any good.

I've made some changes to the Grand Prix page, I'll go through my options for the Championships page later...
