    sound & load time check

    Hi,

still a work in progress, but getting there. have added animation and
sound to linked pages. need dialup/broadband load times and comments
about voiceovers on each page (time, quality etc.--computer generated
    voice).

    link

BTW--this is a multimedia site requiring Flash player. Also, speakers should be
    turned on.

    Thanks.

All I see is "Click here to get plug-in".

Do you have a non-flash option you're planning on implementing?

    Hi guys,

Sorry, we've decided to go strictly Flash format. Our audience consists
of well-to-do clients within the sports car enthusiast community and
typically use broadband connections with Flash players installed either
through their ISP or other sources. If you look at the "options" and "contact"
pages, you'll see why it would be a tad difficult to achieve the same
    effect with DHTML.

Ok, time to really comment on the whole deal!

    <begin what="rant">
First off, I really feel that discounting non-flash users is a bad design choice. It may be the case that your current user base has these things installed, but you will certainly not attract anyone with the "conform or else" mthodology. I for one refuse to do business with any company that doesnt have a cross-browser capable web site. I had a big run-in with timerlodgesteakhouse last year. I wanted to get a gift cert online and all I got was a lowsy "Get IE or Else" type message. I RUN LINUX AT HOME!

Second, As far as you can't do that in DHTML, well perhaps not 100%, but from what I can see in IE (at work) you can do about 90 - 95% of it with animated gifs / DHTML. A little effort will go a long ways.

Finally, I've got a 1969 Fiat 124 Spider (1438 cc) and would actually consider looking into your products. But alas, as I don't have a box at home with IE, I'll never be able to buy from you. I guess www.international-auto.com, www.vickauto.com, or www.fiatparts.com can get my business instead.

    Hi bcarl314,

Thanks for taking a look and expressing your opinion.

If you're a serious SCCA competitor, you've already heard of Steve
Schwitters and Advanced Racing Systems high performance transmissions.
If you're serious about winning a divisional or national championship, then
you might find a two minute Flash download worthwhile (10 seconds or
less on broadband). While I probably would have agreed with the need
for dual purpose (DHTML and Flash) site development two or three years ago,
it has become a far less practical solution today.

The "SpinGirl" animation on the options page consumes 42k utilizing
vector graphics. To duplicate this as a .gif may not be impossible but
development time and memory consumption would be prohibitive. I
have to be fair, though, I didn't use Flash for any of the development
but the new SwishMax flash creation system which cuts production
time by a factor of ten to twenty times.

Again, thanks for the looksee and comments.
