    New Site, Improvements?

    Hi,

    I am relatively new to all this but have put together some HTML and CSS code to make this website. Obviously is it very bare at the moment and I understand the University Guides page isn't working but I'm fixing that now. Other than that, can anyone think of any improvements I could make?

    Thanks,

    Joe

    Use a good theme and add some information in footer. You can make header of website more attractive by adding flash to it.

    just to fill you in, the site has some cross browser compatability issues, in IE there are some flaws.

    nice and simple though!

    It's rather good, yet simple
    To improve it, I think you should work on header look, try to make it a bit catchy.
    As for me, there's also a lack of related images. So will recommend to think about their integrating.

    I like the simplicity too....a site like this is likely to live or die on content rather than looks I think.

    You might want to add something to the page title (<title) tag) to describe what the site does - better for search engines. This applies to the homepage and throughout.

    Your code starts with:

    Code:
    <!-- InstanceBegin template="/Templates/main.dwt" codeOutsideHTMLIsLocked="false" --><!DOCTYPE HTML>

    <hmtl>
    In order for IE to behave itself that comment created by the DW template needs to come after the doctype - I haven't viewed in IE but that's probably a factor in the compatibility issue referred to above. Also I think you'll find it's <html> not <hmtl>. Use the w3c validator to pick up this sort of thing.

    Your "Home" link should go to "/" not "index.html" - otherwise Google may see these as two different pages.

    You can make header of website more attractive by adding flash to it.
    ...or much more irritating, according to your point of view.

    Fascinating to learn that there were 149 days of rain per year when I was at college...
