    1st Attempt

This is my first fully functional website. I realise that the style might not be to everyone's taste (just following orders ) but I'm really looking for some constructive criticism on the site as a professional job - albeit one done by a noob for his mate.

Hmm, it's ok. It's the kind of website I used to make years ago before I made a few realisations.

The problem I have with it, and where a lot of people fall down is its minimalist look, without any attention to detail. I absolutely love minimalist websites, but as with anything, when there's not much to it there's nothing to hide behind so every last detail has to be perfect and this case it's just a super simple layout with no real graphics or colour scheme so nothing really striking.

When reviewing (or creating) a site I like to put myself in the shoes of someone just stumbling across the website, whether or not they will find it accessible or want to venture further. And basically this site will serve it's purpose fine for this guy to tell friends or whoever about to get them on there and check out his work, but not much beyond that.

As much as it shouldn't be the case as there's no real correlation, if I was looking into hiring a musician and stumbled on that site, I would subconciously think "meh... amateur site" and probably not look any further into it when there are other similar products out there with wonderful, captivating site designs. It's a shame, but good web design is really important if he's looking to get any work out of this. Otherwise, it serves its purpose fine as a super basic website to portray a bit of info.

Thanks for your reply, but as you are speaking entirely in generalities, I'm unclear what you think is wrong with the site.

well some things must remain unclear for everybody,

    minor validation problems:

    http://validator.w3.org/check?verbos...onmusic.com%2F

you miss a ';' after & and you need a alt to the picture.

    few problems with css:

i'm not sure if you can do more but will be better if you optimize the site for speed:

I had some minor problem with listening because my connection is slow, i don't think you can do something with this, maybe if you can provide a link for download.

your site is great and the music too,

    best regards

Thanks for the response. Very helpful. I think I was ready to jack the whole design thing in after reading the last post

I'll look into validation and optimisation. I'm not sure if I can do a whole lot on the latter but I'll give it a blast!

your design is original, just ignore common things,

the site is already prety fast, probably you can make the image size smaller, without losing quality.

    best regards

I'm a big fan of sites without bright colours and flashing text / links and as such I really love the design of this page. It's very easy to navigate and clear to read. This has been very well designed.
