I'm asking you, in what way do you personally think that site could be improved if you were given a magical coding wand ?

    Hello johnwall,
I think you need a DocType first. See the link about DocTypes in my signature line. You should have a look at the link about tables while your there.

What kind of background image did you have in mind? Are you wanting a single image behind your #content or a small graphic that can be repeated to cover the entire space?
Validate often DURING development - Use it like a splelchecker | Debug during Development |Write it for FireFox, ignore IE
Use the right DocType | Validate your markup | Validate your CSS | Why validating is good | Why tables are bad

Small graphic that repeats behind the content.

Or is there any way I can give the body half one color and half another? And it will just stretch?

I review your site. I think if you set kids and theirs activity graphic as a backround image your site get high traffic.
