Homepage Design Review before I begin slicing and dicing

    Hi all,

Iv drawn up my photoshop design for a guest house, before I begin slicing and dicing the psd I would love to hear your feedback (be honest) so I can get everything right.

Iv hosted the image here so please have a look.

I look forward to hearing all your comments!

    Thanks in advance!

The image appeared to change between the 2 times I looked at it. Perhaps just my browser.

I like it. I think the earthy tones go well with the whole cottage theme. Couple of personal choices I'd change: If you're going with that black on the bottom, make sure it gets repeated the entire width of the browser. Maybe that's what you plan anyway, not sure, but it looks odd when you view it in a wide browser with it just being in the middle.

Personally, I'd remove the dividers between the navigation links and use a tighter spaced font (I just think they're spread out a bit too much). Perhaps go with a yellow or orange to indicate the current page. Again, that would go well with the earth tones.

I'm sure everyone's opinion is different.

I like it as well, looks really good.

Come back once you've sliced and diced and we can critique your HTML before you build all the pages.

Dunno if the image you posted is real size i.e. the same as when you would build your page. It is too wide for 1024x768 and gives a horizontal scrolbar because about 1/3 of the image is off the page. maybe you are aiming for people with larger resolutions?

Also, I think you have a potential leak in your site. Once someone has found your site, do you really want to give them a way to find somewhere else to stay, instead of at the place to which your site relates?

One more thing: it looks like you will rely heavily on javascript for things such as getting 'more' info from the main text body and to scroll through the rooms. If you do this in your actual page, make sure you have worked out a solution for those who have javascript disabled so they will still see the content and be able to navigate through it all.

Interesting portfolio. are those samples of your work or are those sites using your designs?

Why do some people say "I don't know for sure"? If they don't know for sure then, they don't know!

I was just going to say I hated the black background until the wood pattern showed up, haha! May want to optimize that after all is said and done ;]

The site is beautiful. Only thing that stands out to me is the Twitter/Facebook buttons and that font. I suggest using smaller, sharper icons and cleaner, less fancy text. Maybe turn it into a little widget looking thing.

    Looks great, I'm impressed.

    Hi Bazz,

The majority of my portfolio is my own work although I have only contributed to a couple of them, Iv been steadily developing my web skills and my confidence in web design. The current portfolio page is merely a holding page until I create my new portfolio which I keep putting off because of other web work that comes my way.

Thanks all for your input, Iv actually made a few changes to the the design and am now going to work on the next few pages and then start coding.

    Thanks again!
