Smile The new Urban Butterfly site, completed at last!

Firstly, I'd like to thank all the users here that helped me out with my incessant questions regarding my jQuery menu and initial layout problems! You were such a huge help, so thank you!

I've finally completed the site and it officially went live tonight and I'd like your feedback on the finished product. Areas I'm looking for feedback on in particular are the photo gallery, usability of the menu, the form validation and general styling.

It's probably worth noting that I've tested the site as much as possible in IE7 and 8 (no hacks or even conditional comments used for these two at all!), Firefox 3.0 and 3.5, and the latest versions of Chrome, Safari (Windows) and Opera. Also, every single page validates, as well as the CSS and XML (for the RSS feeds).

All comments and criticisms welcome! Thanks in advance :-)

A blond from Essex. Huh. Anyway.

First impressions: where are my eyes supposed to go? You used grey as a background, and that's cool. But you used grey as the foreground too, and that's not so cool. I tried white, and it looked much more defined. In terms of typography, I'm also a bit worried: it's slightly too small for my eyes, and the letter spacing I got rid of when I scaled it up. (see later)

I like the sliding action of your menu, but the numbering is a bit nondescriptive. How am I to know what's under each section? Using actual categories would be much more efficient.

The little arrow on Song of the Week makes me think it drops to the bottom of the page. Maybe replace it with the word "show"? By the way, I love that song.

Your divider in your title is a bit programming-oriented. It doesn't seem to link them together.

I edited the font values slightly; see what you think.

Thanks for the constructive feedback CyanLight. I'm not really blonde but still! And I'll forgive you misspelling blonde

    Anyway!

Everything you've said are all things I've thought about, which is great. Category naming especially. I'm gonna give the white text a go, as I can see where you're coming from in that respect - same with font scaling.

So, thanks for the feedback, it's all been very helpful :-)

So this is not your personal site? Or are you just a woman posing as a man called Tom? Or do you just not like French adjectival agreement? Glad you took it on board.

Ohhh. Rumbled! I've already changed the font colour on the main content, and I'm amazed by the difference.

lol, as to which? Yes, it does look remarkably better. It does also have the effect of bringing out the content from the rest of the page, especially the sidebar. You may or may not want to change the font further. Verdana looks good, play with/sans letter spacing.
