Exclamation How to get out of the maze.

This site which I manage, is getting out of control.

I need some insight as to how to make it more accessible. I do not have a logical/tidy mind but I do realise that it is difficult to find things from the three columns.

Any help will be apprectiated and, who knows, I may even get my bedroom/office tidy again!

    Thanks in advance,

    Frank

Right off the bat, I'd get rid of the lettering for the headings and make the headings much larger. I'd also get rid of the numbering of the listings since they don't mean anything. I do like the categories you have.

Thanks for the suggestions drhowarddrfine .

The numbers I added so that I could name them when I wanted to refer to them when answering a poster. I'm not quite sure that I understand your remarks about the headers. Could you please be more specific.

I have difficulty finding what I want on the listing. I need to make finding something easier.

Incidentally, the program is self-contained and will work for anyone on their own PC. They are welcome to download it.

    CSS is here.

And this is a computer/pc discussion how? This probably should have gone in the web site review forum.

Are you asking for advice on your website or are you asking for advice on some hardware or software that you've installed in your PC?

Advice on your website should be posted in website reviews.

I didn't notice the 'sub-forum' previously. Poor eyesight I'm afraid. Sorry.

Moving towards something more dynamic could help such as having a search feature. Nice but not really need. To start I would make a navigation that uses the categories as links. Then upon clicking a certain category the user is taken to a page that has just the sources for that category. Its going to take some time. Also to make it easier to update you may want to look into php includes.

    Thanks Aero,

I have a couple of books on PHP. I'll get them out. Forgive my ignorance, but what do you mean by categories. The title of the sections, or coding sub-divisions - CSS, HTML - Hacks etc?. I'm not sure that our english is the same as the USA english. There's all that water in between! Anyway I have plenty of time on my hands.

How about this book for starters.

Learning PHP & MySQL by Michele E. Davis & Jon A. Phillips.

Don't I need Apache or something to use it on my own PC?
I did start on it once with Bazz help. Perhaps I'll just use it from my host.

I recommend adding topic links. First break it down by coding language. Next something like Tables, Widths, Heights and more. Next Images, Files, Videos. Etc. Make a page for each that lists all the links for that section from A - Z.

    Not necessarilly,

Organised is one thing I am not. It will be a new experience for me. Yoicks!
Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye etc etc.

Seriously though, it is a problem with me. I am an untidy person. Anything good about my Sources program is due to Aero and VIPStephan and others on this forum.

    Javascript

I don't know wether you saying that 'people can download it at the moment' was an important factor for you, but if it was then turning this to server side would be a bit of a downer on that, if you wanted to keep it all client side so people can download it, I would try using javascript search which will search the ul's/div's on the page for the keyword.

Easier than you might think to do as well.

    Thanks udjamaflip,

It does sound like a possible way out. I would like the program to be downloadable for others to use. It is my contribution to the forum. Program wise I am not all that proficient.
I shall need to brush up my Javascript. But before that, I need to know the overall method used in searching and what to search for. Never a dull moment.
