New site design, need very honest opinions.

I am developing a website. But before I start adding the PHP I have to it, I would like to know what people think of the design. So I can change it easier.

    My Site

    Be extremely honest please.

    Thanks.

    Design
    - A bit plain
    - Too much green, I would re-think your colour scheme
    - Bevelling and Embossing, i think, is really bad designing. I would try and use strokes, and maybe even a tiny emboss.

    Overall, I give it a 3.9/10

I haven't used any Bevelling and Embossing.

Although I like the color suggestion.

Simplicity and plain are different things. I agree, it looks a little too green all over, only slight contrasts make it harder to decipher the page.

Your header image is huge, but it does little to give me any idea what the point of the site is.

    Its valid, so good there.

Overall the layout works alright I think, but the colors overwhelm you quickly even with only test content. Think about reading for 3 minutes on it, and seeing if it strains the eyes. I would suggest more space between objects vertically, let them breathe. Let those spaces help to break up the content on your site, in conjunction with some color changes to help separate sections and content.

Educated questions often get educated answers, and simple questions often get simple answers.

I understand about the colors, do you have any suggestions for a new color scheme?

And I totally agree with you on the header image, it's rubbish 'nuff said.

    That's a big contrast.

Cyan and light orange with a bit of dark green.
    Sounds good to me

Also I'll throw in a much needed banner improvement

I think the design needs more contrast. Reading that white text on dark green can get tiring after a while.

I hope the HTML on your actual computer is indented, otherwise larger pages are going to be rather hard to work with.

Also having a span inside the h2 tags seems a bit odd, are you using that so that you can have padding? You might want to look into removing that if possible.

I catch you , you have css warnings,

    http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/v...etshed.info%2F

height header? - maybe is to big but I like it.
colors? - could be a better contrast but look fine, I like green,

strange things IMO, make no impresion bad or good:
    - menu bar on top, I expect to be under the header
    - proportion to big between font size on 'CONTENT' and items like 'Submit content' for example
    - link on header to main page, whyyyyyy? I'm already there and you already have a HOME.

    best regards
