Question Rate, Review and Critique my CSS Zengarden Entry

    http://nrindian.info

This is a design i've submited for CSSZengarden entry. It's not yet been accepted or rejected, so I guess I'll ask you guys what you think.

The HTML is standard, but all the graphics and CSS has been coded by me. Take a look and tell me what you guys think.

    First Glance Thoughts:
    - WOW.

    Design:
    - From the start of the page it looks awesome, but when I scroll down, I notice little things jetting off the sides, this brings the page's design score down a bit.
    - The colours are good!
    - The footer graphic is cool!
    - The font size needs to be larger. Maybe 12px.
    - That butterfly looks real! Maybe make a cartoon version of it.

    Technical
    - One of the very few sites which pass validation: W3Validator
    - No bad coding practice!

    Overall:
    It's very very very nice!
    Design Score: 8.48/10
Technical Score: 10/10 - Nothing I can fault.

And it always will if its a zen garden layout as you can't change the html which is already valid by default. Good design. The header seems a little overwhelming. Maybe a little smaller?

I'm no designer, but I know what I like. Never ceases to amaze me how nice people can make things look. I'm with aerospace here, the top is a little big. I have a widescreen monitor, and the graphic takes up about 80-85% of the page height by itself. I would reduce its height, but I wonder how it would look if it was also a little wider.
With the links menus, they definitely draw you're attention, which I suppose they should be doing. The do seem a little out of place though, as babyjack mentioned. I don't really picture things well (unless its actual code, lol), but what would it look like if they were sunken into the page instead of outset from it?
Even as is, I think you'll hit their main page.
    PHP Code:
    header('HTTP/1.1 420 Enhance Your Calm');

Thanks for the feedback guys,it's appreciated! I agree, the header is quite large, I did this to create an effect of peering through the monitor and into the garden. The title of this piece is "Garden of Solitude" and the idea behind the design was two fold. 1) To create a portal through which the viewer had a chance to meditate before going on to read the text, and the 2) to play off the idea of a asian wall hanging placed against a wall which falls down revealing various elements layered ontop of one another.

It was important to me to have some sense of depth since html pages are often quite flat, hence the navbars are raised up against the main panel. I tried inseting them but the effect looked strange against the bare grey background.

Still, thank you for taking the time to critique the design - should it get rejected i will try to incorporate the changes suggested here for the next attempt.

But it is real isn't it?

Lovely design. How could I possibly add to what has already been said.

    Thumbs up i like it.

Nice design i like the colour scheme, and the pastel colours at the bottom.
I would add some anti alias on the corners of the graphics to take out the parts that are starting to pixelate, and shorten the header.

The code looks layed out well, and easy to see tags go where.

Nice CSS and XHTML Well Designed! A+

My only question is to you is how did you get PR 8? O.o

What can I say that hasn't already been said? Give me a moment, I'm sure I'll think of something . . .

    Sharp!

    Yes, that's it. Sharp!

Good balance of colors and except for the header (as others have already suggested) none of the graphics seem overly distracting.
