    Review for www.humanrightsdefence.org

    Hi all,

A HR organisation that I have become involved in recently went online - currently we are looking to get some opinions on the site, so members have started asking around - any tips, suggestions for improvments etc would be greatly appreaciated! I started posting this question on as many review forums as possible, and it would be great if for anybody to take a look at Thanks in advance!

I like the design and it's simple and easy to navigate. The important text stands out from the rest. Although it doesn't validate, which I think is the only criticism i can give it.

Nice site, one thing I'd say is give your images some padding so that the text next to them stands off of it a little, because it looks a little cramped otherwise.

I think it looks like it's part of a plain template. You know what people will think? They'll be thinking, "Is this a serious organization?" The blue you use has no impact, the washed out handprint has no impact, and the HTML text logo will look defferent across different browsers. I can't imagine that's what is intended.

Thanks to all for the reply -- greatly appreciated.

In regards to the more critical reply above; yes it is part of a template (for details see the "designed by link" - titled "Joomla Templates). I greatly appreciate your reply - what would you recommend?

In regards to the question "Is this a serious organization?" - I believe Luisa Nordlander's profile as a Lawyer speaks for itself.

We are no designers, but offer legal advice, so more tips, ideas would be more than welcome. Thanks

I would say that the most important thing you need to do is make it look official. Since your website is using a template and it shows, you should probably make a big effort to customize it.

Is the hand part of the template or is it part of your branding? Do you have a specific typeface for your logo? If the answer to both of these is no, then I would recommend getting a logo and sticking to it. Otherwise, use your official logotype as an image and brighten up the hand to match the text.

Now I see how I glanced over all the Joomla and validation information. Is any of that necessary?

    hi,

graphics, aspect is not in my skill list, so I don't comment that but as a opinion, I like it.
    About rest:

    1. you have invalid markup:

    http://validator.w3.org/check?verbos...defence.org%2F

    2. meta tags are bloated, that means more spam then seo,

    3. what do you want to say about a joomla site, the quaility is proportional with your effort to do it.

    regards

    Hi again,

I followed some of the advice above - logo change etc. Maybe people would like to take a quick peek again? ( I do it part-time, and spent some time at it today, but it's slow...so not all advice was followed yet)

I think the logo change made a huge difference. I'm glad I was able to help out a little!

    Technical:
    - Doesn't validate
    - Good: You didn't use tables for layout
    - On the right column, some things extend outside of the box, ie in the HRD newsflash.
    - You've got the menu under the logo AND the logo on the left, perhaps slim it down to only 1
    - Search box extends past the border of the left column

    Design:
    - Looks great
    - I didn't see the other logo, but this one looks excellent
