    My Personal Development Site

Looking for some feedback about this layout. I've probably put together 50,000 different ones before this one but this one is the first one I've actually thought about sharing with the public. Most of the background idea came from some layouts I saw on Deviant Art. None of the links work yet, it's just a preliminary set up to give an idea.

Any and all feedback is welcome, good or bad =)

Edit: Lol might help to include a link.

Overall, I like it. It has an "easy" layout, and is simple to follow. The Header is certainly your strongest point on the layout.

    Positives
    -Great Header/Background Image
-The transparent like body section is very nice looking.
-The "Our Work" preview is very easy on the eyes and has a nice fade effect in my opinion.

    Improvements
-The site was very slow to load. Maybe it was just my connection but I only encountered this on your site, so I am assuming it is slow to load for everyone.
-Text indent the first line of the first paragraph.
-Use some margins on the paragraphs to break them up more and make them look less "daunting"

On a side note, the text "payments are made when due." goes off of the color #171717 and into color #0F0F0F in FireFox 2. Wasnt sure how else to describe that besides saying your text hangs off the "page area."

Like I said, for the most part...I like it

    Regards,

    Drew

The site doesnt load slow for me, but I'll check into it. Thanks for letting me know =)

Indented the paragraphs and spaced them out a little more with some line-height and padding.

    Thanks for the input!

loaded slow for me too. I find your logo to be a little unprofessional and it wont look good in print (business cards, invoices, ect..) but besides that nice site.

Can you elaborate a little more on that please. Logos have always been my pittfall. So any input would be greatly appreciated.

I figure the slow load time is due to the fact that its hosted on my personal server atm before I upload it to a "real" server.

Just FYI, those subtle changes you just made do a world of difference when it comes to reading those paragraphs in my opinion. Nice work

Oh and looks like it is loading faster now too.

Your background images didn't work in firefox for me (maybe case sensitivity?) I fiddled with the css to get them to load and now they load normally (without my css changes).

Your images are much bigger than they need to be, Your background images are all about 1.2Kb when they could be under 300b without any loss in quality, your banner image doesn't seem to be compressed at all, you could halve the file size with no noticeable loss.
If you use photoshop use 'save for web' and fiddle with the various settings to get the best filesize.

I agree with srule, the logo just isn't working for me, it doesn't match the site (also fwiw, if you're going to do the reflect thing, you should reflect the whole image, not just the letters) Banners/Logos are not my forte so I don't really have any suggestions on that front.

I wouldn’t indent your paragraphs. New paragraphs are marked by an indent or, the prevailing standard on the web, a block of whitespace in between (block paragraphs). Using both is overkill.

Some of the images loaded slow for me as well, specifically the top logo and the purple colored background. I have to agree with the others on the top logo, it really doesn't feel like it works very well.

You used a list for your top menu but you didn't for your footer. The footer is an unordered list of links as well.

the slow loading (i'm getting it too) is most likely your image rotator.

20 of the images it's loading average to about 30K each.
    +
1 of the images is almost 180k.
    +
100k +/- for the layout inline images
    ________

    almost a 1meg load time.

I'm on a T1 network line and it still takes a while before your css images catch up.
