Post 2+ year old website I have only just got online (reviews please)

Your opinions on the idea and design please. Bare in mind it’s only a hobby site that I spend 5 mins a week on. It has been going for a long time but I just got the main stuff up and now starting to think it needs a redesign all over again as not many people have joined.

What do you think i could do to improve my member base?

o and am not to bothered about the coding of it at the moment i just need opinions on the look and feel and what else could be done side.

What is this site? What's it for? What's it's unique selling point? Hmm, they're asking me to register, why should I? What do I get out of it? This could be a nice design but I can't read anything and the way the background image is cut off looks bad. Nevermind, lets click one of these letters up here. N looks good. *click* *blank page* Bye.

That about sums up my user experience of your site.

You need a good answer to all my initial questions, and you need to communicate that clearly to anyone who finds your site. You also need to make sure the site works properly, and promote it via some form of marketing so people actually know it exists.

ok where to start consoleclips dot com sums up what the site is about i guess. If you register you get to send messages to other members and submit your own videos but i guess i don't explain that. what do you mean by you can't read anything? and the back ground image is cut off? The reason N did not work was becuase there are no videos that start with N if you try G 2 videos will show but that's my fault again i need a message in there.

Please can you reply about the problems your getting with text and background image.

    Thanks

I find it difficult to read the links in the top menu due to the background texture and the fact it's black text on a fairly dark grey ground. The background texture also interferes with the text in the news section.

As for the background image, try looking at the site in a larger resolution. Then you get the image sort of hovering in the top left corner, with a dark blue background colour behind it, and no transition.

consoleclips dot com sums up what the site is about
I have no idea what a console clip is. Maybe I know it by another name. Maybe I know what it is, but not what it is called. Tell me what it is, even if that is stating what's obvious.

Pretend your user is blind. How would you describe your site to a visitor who is using an aural browser? Then take that description, write it up, and use it for a description on your site. Overstate the obvious, because what is obvious to you may not be that clear to people visiting your site.

Think "advertising." It's not enough to have a good product, you have to tell people how wonderful it is.

    First of all;

    http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=ht...om%2Fcchome%2F

You have 39 validation errors including no doctype. As a result, your site looks 'messed up' in IE, the background is in the middle of the page and the writing is still over to the left.

If you want to maximize the amount of people who can view your site I'd look into fixing these validation errors.

Here are some links for reference:
    http://www.w3.org/QA/2002/04/valid-dtd-list.html
    http://validator.w3.org/

    Hope this helps

Thanks am working on a new design now. The old one is saying up while i build the new design. With my new design am going with a friendly design then graphics every where like the old one.

Please keep in mind that in my first submission I said am not bothered about the coding side. Just how the graphics looked. Even though it seems maybe the code affects the way the graphics look. But I think it’s down to the screen resolution problem I have.

It doesn't matter about graphics at the moment. To be able to display your site well in lots of different browsers you're going to have to write semantically good code, which means it needs to be validated and make sense! You can't expect to build a decent site without good coding. It's just not feasible and will take you so much more time. Had this design been coded well there would be a lot less problems for you!

That said, content is the other major point that all good sites need to focus on. Without it you may as well pack up and go home. There have been some good comments regarding what to write, at least, for an intro to the site. You have to think in the mindset of someone who doesn't have a clue what a console or clip is. If you can make it make sense for them then everyone else will understand it too!

However, I will say keep it condense because people do not like going to a site (that isn't about reading) and read hundreds of words of text, especially not on the homepage. Short, to-the-point and descriptive!
