    Work in progress (suggestions)

Review my site, some of the links are broken, it is unfinished, I made it for my highschools anime club. Critiques and constructive criticism greatly appreciated.

I am not sure what an anime site is supposed to look like, but I think your site kind of catches that more cartoony look. I don't like the scrolling text on the tab in the taskbar. Actually, just tone down the javascript period. The snow falling doesn't look great and its distracting. My philosophy has always been simplicity, but that is just my opinion.

Loose the scrolling text in the page title. And like mentioned before, get rid of the snow.

I noticed all the links in your source code to other pages and images are absolute paths which could be a bad idea if the website's address ever changes. You'd be better of using relative paths.

Just the ole advice most amateur designer should remember = KISS

    Keep It Simple Stupid!

No offence, just a simple way of remembering it. A rookie mistake is to over complicate a design, stick with a simple design and drop some of the scripts. :-)

hey, you asked for advice, and you got it.. you shouldnt get angry if you dont agree with it...

    personally, i agree,

lose the marquee text in title
    lose the snow

also, nobody has mentioned this, but, when i first loaded it, i had a "missing plugin" warning in FF, when i clicked "install new plugin" it said, Plugin Unknown.. dont know what this is from, but shouldnt be there...

You are taking it too personal, I'd imagine if abrewitt wanted to insult you, they would of phrased the tone of their post much more aggressively. They were trying to give you some advice about not going overboard with things.

That's an MP3 plugin, I think, because that is the only plugin I know of that Firefox doesn't do right. I looked up how to fix it once but got distracted, and it doesn't come up often enough to worry about.

But, the site is ok. The gray and black style is a little boring, and the red logo just doesn't fit. Also, definitely lose the scrolling title. Those are always just annoying...never actually look good.

As for being called an amateur...it does look very amateur-like. I'm an amateur, I'm not trying to say anything bad about that. Its just that I wouldn't be surprised to see someone with you skill level in my web design class.

I hope you ll take it positively. Looking on the bright side, you ll be able to remember it clearly. Remember how Orlando Bloom got punched in the movie 'Kingdom of Heaven'? It wasn't an offence. Seriously maybe it was ... abit too direct.

*note: I am using FF 2.0 to view your site.

Well my opinions, you can remove the snow effect if you wish because the bandwidth is unneccesary. The navigations above, right under the header, i noticed it's '2 storeys high', if you get what i mean. I hope you are able to fix that, if you want because generally, it would be annoying and not very attractive. You may opt for drop down menus.

For example, 'About Us', 'Profile' & 'Contact Us' can go under 'Home'. You could be able to offer visitors to hover/click 'Home' & a dropdown menus to links containing 'About Us, 'Profile & 'Contact Us' appeared. This way, it will be more neat.

The letters used for the navigation, in my opinion will be hard to read. If you notice, most websites usually stick to Verdana, Arial, Gerogia, Courier & Geneva for navigations. It's universally easy for viewers to grab.

The marquee style is old fashion, you can lose it if you want. For the content areas, it might come to mind that you will need some padding. You can see the words actually touches (on the left side) the border.

Now, for the html... you will need to put a doctype declaration before <html> in your page, this is very important. There are basically only 3 doctypes to choose from. To learn more on doctypes:

It's normal for newbies to actually ignore and not putting doctypes. Happens to me before. But hey, ain't we all used to be amateurs? Seriously who "wasn't"?

What is the point of a doctype anyway, I've never used one.

If you start to learn and apply css...which is now getting common, you ll know you are going to need it.. dearly. IT is important. It's like wearing the right sneakers once you get out of the house.
