Question Stop position: fixed from overlapping the header

Hey, on my site, I display messages at the top, placing them in <div>s. Now I though it would be nice to have them position: fixed; so they would scroll along down, also because it's not such as problem if it does not happen (as in IE). However, I got one problem.
When not having scrolled the least, the messages overlap the header. The height of the messages <div> can vary, but I'd like them to push down the header, is that possible?
