Creating a variable from a text field

I am new to javascript, and i was just wondering if it would be possible to take a string from a text box, and store it in an array to update a marquee on other pages when the submit button is clicked on the form in question?

And I am not sure if javascript is the best language to do this but i only know HTML and I am learning Visual Basic. I do want to learn other languages, I just seem to pick stuff up as I go along though!
