Hello, I have an ABit BE6-II Mainboard, and I've been having a problem with how it boots. Randomly *And I do mean randomly* it will not post. It will power up and the fans and lights flash, but the CAPS Lock/Scroll Lock/Num Lock lights all flash roughly every 5 seconds and nothing comes on the screen.
It only does this every once in a while, and at first I thought it was the Power Supply, but I've tried 3 other PSUs and no change. Then I thought maybe it was the video card.. so I tried about 5 different ones, AGP and PCI. Still getting the random "no-post."
Basically when it happens, I unplug the power cord (or flip the power switch) and wait till the HDD stops spinning, and then I power it up again and it then works fine (boots and posts the way it would be expected).
Does anyone know what's wrong with it or how I can fix it?
Just to rule more things out, you could download and run a program called memtest86 to test your memory to verify that it isn't the source of the problem.
Though my gut instinct is that your motherboard is the source of the problem.
i've tested many different memory modules so i don't think that's the problem. but i've recently tried to put in a wireless card, and it won't post at all.. so is it possible that it's a PCI problem?
Well you can do one of the most tried and true methods for diagnosing a problem like this. Disconnect everything not essential for booting and just leave the video card, the memory, the cpu, the motherboard and power supply. If you can't see the get the problem to occur, then start adding components one by one until it fails.
Now if it does happen with the bare bones and you've already tried different PSUs, memory and video cards. That leaves the cpu and the motherboard, typically CPUs don't just flake out like that. But the only way to be sure would be to replace one of the two components and see if that fixes it.
However if it is the motherboard, you typically can't fix whatever is wrong with it. However though if it is like some blown capacitors (you can tell if any of them are bulging or leaking) then it is possible to replace them and get it working again but that requires some fairly good electronics skills.
I've tried changing everything, including the CPU, video cards, bare bones etc... still same problem. but i'm going to check so see if any capacitors are looking weird. I have some experience in soldering small electronics so I'll take a shot at it and let you know how it goes... if this is the case

Like I said before though, be careful if you do that, you could easily fix one problem and cause enough doing that. And also the capacitors was just one thing, whatever is causing the problem might not even be visible.
yeah, turns out the problem is not visible. So I'm thinking I'm just going to trash the mobo. It's too much of a pain to deal with haha. (I got the thing for free so it's not like I'm losing much) But thanks for the input, oracleguy
