my new HP lappy (compaq nx6110) comes with intel centrino 1.6Ghz processor speed. it however runs on just 400 MHz. A friend mentioned it's been underclocked (wherever the phrase comes from). Any explanation to this? What are the pros and crons of it running on the normal speed.
A lot of modern computers clock the CPU down when it is inactive, and when more CPU power is needed, increase the clockspeed. This is done because running it at slower clockspeeds requires less power, therefore increasing battery life.
