Okay, so your links are on top of your text (which apparently is your background image...). Looks like you're going to have to fix that in your css file.
About the shorter URL. That's very easy to do. You can do a search for "free web hosting". It is especially easy since your site is already on the 'net (you don't have to mess around with uploading files). My suggestion: go to http://www.cjb.net. It's a free host that comes with free email. Your URL would be horse_fever.cjb.net (or whatever you want it to be).

Yes, yes, maybe, no.
You can get your own domain at a hosting provider for chump change these days, but if you're not willing or able to cough up the money there are free alternatives as well; most of them, though, will place some form of advertising on your site.

Since you seem to have used all absolute URLs you will need to change those if you want to move to another place; therefore, using relative URLs in the future makes moving much easier.

I have used CJB's redirection service before, and the only problem with it is it expires after 90 days if you do not access your account and "keep it active" every once in a while (I try to do it at least once a month). Aside from that, cjb.net is about the best free URL redirecion you can get.
I'm not sure you have to use relative URLs with cjb.net. They are only a redirection service with a URL mask (no matter where on the site the visitor navigates, the address bar of the browser always displays (yourname).cjb.net). You can keep your absolute URLs unless you choose a web host that lets you upload your files onto their server.

I disagree. Whenever I visit a cjb.net site, popup's (try to) appear, and the majority of times my virus checker has alerted me. I avoid cjb.net links now like the plague.
I suggest going for a DOT TK. A short .tk address, free, with no advertisements - there is a banner but you can turn it off.
