Putting a server online.

Hi,

I want to run my own server on the web.

I need to know the following (and perhaps more), and would be grateful for some tips/directions to that information.

here are the steps I want to address:

1.I want to get a 2 server/boxes each with Apache for continuous live hosting.
2. connect them to the web (presumably), through a router so that any sites I run can be hosted by me.
3. set them up so that if one box fails, the other takes over (co-location?)

How can I do this? I want, also, to enable each site to be on its own webspace ie totally independent of any other site.

If there are other considerations that I haven't thought of, I would appreciate your advice.

PS, I have thought of eblades but there are two drawbacks I know of:

1. I ain't got the funds,
2. I wouldn't know if they are the best or worst way. perhaps simpler but at a sacrifice.

Would you be running the primary server at home or colocation?

er.... um.

My home is also where my office is. So I would want to run at least one there(proably two) and with the others at different premises.
