Ok, so I had my Windows XP Professional reinstalled on my computer here at work. I of course backed up everything that I needed EXCEPT for one folder. I had a web app project that was in my C:\Inetpub\wwwroot folder that is the root for IIS. Being the smart guy I am, I forgot about that folder before my OS was reinstalled. I'm just not quite ready to give up on the fact that everything I had worked on is gone. Is it really? Or is there some glimmer of hope that there is a way to retrieve that project I had in my IIS folder? I'm 99.9% positive it's gone, but I figured that I'd check with the smarter people here first before I completely conceded to the fact that I screwed myself. Thanks!
it might still be floating around on a sector that windows can't access normally...try a GOOD piece of data recovery software, not one of them pieces of crap that pretends to be good
Before you break out the old data recovery software, a couple of questions.
Did they reinstall by deleting, repartitioning and reformatting your hard drive?
Did they reinstall by re-imaging your hard drive?
If the first of the two occured then your data may still yet be recoverable as weazel alluded to. However, if they reimaged your system then you can count the .1% of uncertainty as certain. A reimage of the harddrive means that all sectors of the harddrive have been overwritten with data from the new image.
If however, they did not do either of the above two and just simply reinstalled Windows over itself, then your data could still be alive and well in your original profile. If you are an administrator of your machine, open explorer and look for a folder under Documents and Settings that looks almost like yours but may have an extension attatched to it.

I believe the IT guy only reinstalled XP over the existing installation. I checked in the Documents and Settings folder with no luck. He definitely didn't do any reimaging of the hard drive. I've contacted him and he's going to get his hands dirty at the end of the week here to see if he can pull it out. I figured I'd give it a try myself first, but after reading up on some recovery software, I've decided against it, lol. I only have one HD and one partition, so I can't install any recovery software on here. Either need to put it on our server or get it onto a CD, and I've got better things to do than sit and play with that. Thanks for everyone's input! I'll post a follow-up on Friday.
Well, no way around that unless I can get the boss to agree for a whole week off of work and PAID! But unlike the recovery of that project, i'm 100% sure that that won't happen, haha. It's ok. I've already began working on it again and you always do things better the second time around anyway. So hey, losing that project will just result in a better implementation!
