Microsoft Academic Alliance

Want a lot of free Microsoft software?

The computer science department at my university recently signed up a subscription with Microsofts Academic Alliance program. This is a program that gives the school departments and students free access to many different software titles from Microsoft for educational purposes. Once your school has subscribed to the program all students enrolled in computer science courses at your school can sign up to either download or check out CD's for all kinds of software.

It seems like a pretty good program for students to be able to become familiar with all the major software that Microsoft has to offer. Software titles include:

Visual Studio 6 Professional
Windows XP Professional, Windows 9x
Visio Pro 2002
Project 2002

etc.

I've already downloaded Visual Studio which includes Visual C++, Interdev, Visual Basic and many other components.

If you are a student let your school faculty know about the program. If the school signs up for it then you can get access to this too. Here is a link for more information about it:

Wow! Free MS Software. Finally a resonable price !

My school's got a similar program, but the SW's not free, rather significantly reduced in price. (Office XP full version - professional for $99)

I'm guessing that is not a program your shool signed up for. Typically as a student or school faculty member you can find many retail stores or software companies that offer educational discounts on software. No need to sign up for anything. Just have to prove that you are in school or work for one.

This program involves the school signing up which the school does pay a subscription price but the students will get the software for free either through checking out the CD's from the school or downloading the software.

If only I wasn't on the other side of the world....I think Australia well Oceania is underpriverliged (is that spelt right?) software wise. We get and make great computer hardware as well as other nifty little things like the bionic ear etc, but our software prices are so high and we only get some titles that are available to US and other western countries. As soon as I'm old enough I'm moving to the US.
