Banned by Google? Surely not!

Hello, new website wallah, know the basics

Launched this
www.cjdsolicitoradvocate.co.uk
for the good Lady Wife about six months ago, and it's fine for what she wants

Submitted it to Google and so on and sure enough I could find it using the domain name, assumed it was sand boxed and started to wait

On checking in the last few weeks it seems to have vanished from Google completely, even the index if I check using the site: search

Been crawled by google spiders twice this month

Site is as plain as plain could be I think, I've no idea what could have caused this if that's what happened

I'd be very grateful if anyone with some knowledge could have a squint and spot something that might have caused this if casue there be

Thank-you

This is the only text on the page:

"Christine Dean Solicitor Advocate Child Care Specialist Website";

the rest of the page are images. Except for the Title, Googlebot has no idea what the page is about.

Put some more content on the page and see what happens. Don't expect quick results.

In the beginning the page was indexed only because Googlebot found something new, then it dropped it because next time around there was no content.

That's all she wants, the text that's there I added for Google's benefit, the text matches the keywords and descriptions, how much text does Google want to accept a page as valid?

The other pages have text, what happens to sites with those old fashioned splash pages with a line or so of text?

Just asking

I suppose I could do the buttons with text in instead of Images, would that do it?

And thanks for your reply

Hi,

Well as this is just asking about Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), then I think, really, that you need to put much more text content into the pages. More use of html buttons rather than javascript roloevrs would be good from a users point of view too. Then use CSS to give the presentation of them, will also help.

Has she looked at other solicitors sites for ideas about what could be added?

It is not only how much text Google wants... the contents of the page have to be relevant to the title of the page AND the search phrase. As far as the keywords section in the head of the page, you can forget it. As far as Google is concerned.

The crawler is blind, it doesn't care for images or anything else other than the text on the page.
Sure, it will follow the links, because it does follow the href tag, but then I would suggest that you include alt tag with images and possibly the title for the links. It helps crawlers, but also improves accessibility of the website.

But, if the client wants ONLY what is on the page now, then she can't ask for more traffic. Or, she can ask, but probably won't get it.

Googlebot is supposed, and I stress "supposed" to follow your links and find the pages with textual content and index them. Of course, that doesn't always happen. Google also said on their page that submitting your index page is enough. Well, in my experience, it is enough... sometimes. Google will not penalize you if you FROM TIME TO TIME submit other pages. On the contrary, it worked for me many times.

Google doesn't like when you cheat, that's all.
I suggest go to the Google webmaster resources page and read a little and try to post some questions in the forums there.

And, the last but not the least, use less tables and more css, try to separate the content and the presentation. There is too many tags that clog up the page, too much script and it all results with lentghy code and very little content.

I hope this helps and that I didn't sound too critical of your work.

not at all, thanks for your reply and detail

I'm just starting to get the hang of CSS, divs after that, this'll be the one I start with, I agree with the coding, once you've seen a css site, the html marups do look a bit sily

Not after traffic as such, just want Google to list it when someone searches for it

But I hear what you say, cheers fellas

I think I have roughly the same question as this person. I posted on another thread titled "website made with photoshop and imageready" or something similiar. I created a graphics only based website with sliced images. Google has me indexed but not any of my text is available because it is all in graphic form. I just want to know a simple way......how I would code my pages so that I can type text that the crawler will pick up, but will not be visible on my page or affect my page in anyway. Sort of an invisible text that I would just type word for word for what I already have in my graphics. Any help with this is greatly appreciated.

I am not well experienced in SEO but I do recall readoing an age ago, about two years, that putting text in page and then hiding it by making its color the same as the background was considered cheating.

I geuss that you could put this 'search engine text' into the 'alternative' parts of the page such as where you give infor for people who have images disabled or have not a specific plug-in.

My own view, for what its worth, is that the page should be coded as far as possible in html and use css graphics etc for other reasons than to display text.

Whatever you do, just try not to cheat.
If the text on the page is there only to attract the spider, so you make it invisible or hardly visible to humans, Google will eventually catch it and it may kick you out of the register. Then, it would be very difficult to find your way back.

Try to code with content in mind and not for the search engines. Write pages that clearly and accurately describe your content. Update your pages frequently. Have other RELEVANT sites link to yours. Offer link to the Sitemap and submit that page from time to time. Try to keep number of links on one page fewer than 100.

Also, make sure your web server supports the If-Modified-Since HTTP header. This feature allows your web server to tell Google whether your content has changed since they last time crawled your site.

Try to examine your site in text-only browser, like Lynx. The web crawler will see your page exactly as you can see it in the text-browser.

Submit your site to Open Directory Project and Yahoo...

Oh, and don't get discouraged.

Good luck!
