I have a tower with tons of fans, and yet the thing still seems to be hotter than blazes WITHOUT any overclocking! I need help deciding directions for fans to be facing (intake vs. exhaust).
I have 1 rear 120mm fan in back, 1 CPU fan, 1 top fan, 1 side fan, a PSU fan (obviously) and 2 HDD coolers with 2 fans per cooler. I have no idea which ones are exhaust and which ones are intake, but which way should I face them? Should there be more intakes or more exhausts? Let me know which way each one should face and what your reasoning is so I can actually understand wtf is going on with tower cooling.
You should have atleast one intake and one exhaust, ensuring a constant through current of air. How hot is your CPU & hard disks getting? Right now I've got 3 hard disks in one PC here (Athlon 2800+, 512mb ram) in a zorro gaming case with 5 80mm fans providing a constant through current of air, and they are all at 39 degrees, with the CPU at 53.5 (which is it's usual tempreature) ok..the CPU might be a little hot. The CPU has a fan (obviously), as does the PSU and graphics card.
Yeah, thats what I thought about, but I have so many directions that the air is pushing that I dont know which ones to have as intake and which ones to direct as exhausts. I recently lost a HDD to heat, so I am just now purchasing a few HDD coolers (the one I had died and sent the HDD into a heat-stroke or something). I definatly want to get a bigger/better CPU cooler, and I would love to do some sort of VapoChill setup, but then again I would also love an Enzo Ferrari, but its just not in the cards right now.
So seeing as I have so many directions pushing/pulling, which ones should I use to intake and which ones to exhaust? Also, on the CPU fan, do you have your blowing into the heatsink or taking hot air away from it?
No idea about the CPU heatsink fan yet, I only just fitted it yesterday (it's my bros machine really..I work off a laptop most of the time ) so I'll have to have a look. I'm just using the stock HS & fan at the moment, if it doesn't work properly I'll replace it for him.
Actually I am running into this problem also. And luckily for me I am running the chip of this guy so I understand that I need to go get a new processor fan. I watched my processor hit 100+ degrees and I know that is not good. And that was with it sitting right next to my AC duct with a fan blowing the air right on it. I think it is time to upgrade

All in one box. A bit of heat...
Note: I do not test code. I just write it off the top of my head. There might be bugs in it! But if any thing I gave you the overall theory of what you need to accomplish. Also there are plenty of other ways to accomplish this same thing. I just gave one example of it. Other ways might be faster and more efficient.

Do you have good wire management inside of your case? That can help a lot since it promotes better airflow inside your case.
Also think about where your case is positioned, is it in a space that has good airflow? Like you don't have it in some sort of cabinet that doesn't have at least decent ventilation? Just so the air being pushed out of the case isn't just getting sucked back in because there isn't enough ventilation.
