No not in a textarea. Google for WYSIWYG editors.

is there a way you can put that stuff into an area where there is a scrollbar but not necessarily have it be a textarea?

Or a scrollable div.

Lets say you got this.

Code:
<div id="scrollingdiv">
    <!--some html code you have-->
</div>
Then the css would be like this:

Code:
#scrollingdiv {
overflow:auto;
width:400px;
height:100px;
border:1px solid #999;
background:#ccc;
padding:.5em;
}
Offcourse you can remove the backgroundcolor and border

Got a link to your page?
