Proper looking news?

Hey, this is more of an aesthetic question, but something dealing with CSS nonetheless. I have a page that has a news box on it, but it just doesn't look like 'news' should look. If anyone has any suggestiosn that would be wonderful.

Thanks,
DaVuLf

If your news is hot or updated ones, then you can implement it with JavaScript popup within your page. What I mean is like one at:

News looks fine, that god awful banner image doesn't. I honestly believe that the corn-factor of that banner is polluting your perception of the news. The footer is pretty bad too but the header is absolutely ridiculous and seems like a very long stretch to connect it adequately with the idea behind it. Oasis theme obviously being the idea, but it's just not coming off right.

The news looks very clean-cut and so the rest of the design should suit that, I'd got for a simplistic sheik rather than... whatever that is. Sorry. Also, the java pop-up will annoy most of your users and since it is not a commercial site per se but rather geared to information for the students I do not recommend the javascript hot news pop-up.

IMO I think the site looks nice actually.

I don't know... how *should* news look?

1. I think you should get away from Times New Roman, move to something like Verdana or Arial.

2. Decide what feel you are going for. I'm guessing you want a kind of blog feel? So have a look at some other sites which use a layout you like. Normally a blog layout would look like so -

The News Title
The Date
The Text

If you want to include the author in there too, I'd suggest something like -

The News Title
The Date | Author
The Text

Make the date and author text smaller than the main text, make the title the largest size. Just my 2 cents.
