The use of a META tag?

I want search engines to search my site the way I want them to. I am unfamilier with meta except to refresh pages. Is this what I would stick at the top of my html?

<META NAME="description" CONTENT="colors">
<META NAME="keywords" CONTENT="red, blue yellow">

(Just an example)

Do you mean like they have to go to page1 then page 2 then page 3 and so on and so forth?

if you want search engines to index/search your website, then I think google still uses the "keywords" meta tag..well it has proven good use on my website

I don't actually think that Google does use the keywords meta tag and hasn't used it for quite some time.
I believe it still uses the description meta tag for presenting your listing within the serps themselves, but afaik, the only major engine to use the keywords meta tag now is Inktomi.
