HTML Components - Delete and Backspace not working

I have a HTML Component (htc) file. Initially the component state is set as invisible and on a combo change event the component is made visible. The html component is shown within a table (<div>). The htc contains normal HTML textboxes, checkboxes etc.,. Am able to edit or enter new values in the textboxes but am not able to delete the contents using backspace or delete keys. There is no event attached to any key press events that swallows the key code. The style sheets are also clean from any such code.

When the same component is shown in a different page the delete key works but not the backspace.

Please let me know whether anyone of you has faced similar issues and how you solved it.
