Flash: Changing the type property of textfield created using MovieClip.createTextFiel

Hey guys,
I am creating this chat system using flash MX 2004. I was just wondering...if the default "type" property of a textfield created using MovieClip.createTextField() is dynamic, then that means it must be possible to change it to static. If that is the case then how can the textfield be referred to once its converted to a static type? Is it even possible to change the type of the textfield?

Any ideas are appreciated.

Regards,

Jay
