I was wandering what is the best virus scanner available I have tryed AVG free edition and i didnt think that was very good. I am now using Mcafee virus scanner and find it quite good.
The best around I know of is NOD32 - http://www.nod32.com/. Followed closely by AVG and Sophos. However, I dont know how many people will agree with me. McAfee is supposed to be very good, but I have never tried it - Norton is total rubbish.
Dunno really, they all have their resident shields to run on the system, so the only way around it is to install loads of physical ram...a gig plus I like
I'm looking for a cheap 1.2-1.5ghz Athlon based system of which I can stick in two or three large hard disks, gig of ram, and then use it as a WAMP server and fileserver. I think I can get something like that on ebay quite cheap
Well the reason that I sing AVG's praises is because compared to Norton, the free edition of AVG is, of course, free and does a decent job. It also uses less system ram than Norton (well it does on my machine )
However, I am led to believe that Norton detects more than AVG free. There was a rumour a while back in Computer Shopper magazine that NAV didn't detect as many trojans as AVG - but I haven't gone and tested that theory myself.
