Hello all, its been a very long time since I have posted, what with exams and studies little of which are related to computer work... anyway, im having this very annoying problem with my keyboard. (Im on a laptop if it makes much difference)
Anyway, When I hold down the shift key to capitalize a letter, it will not work on a small set of letters... (P,Z,X,V,N,M). The other shift key has the same problem except it works with the letter P. Also, the ctrl key will not work with some standard shortcuts (Ctrl+X, V, C, S, A (cut, paste, copy, save, select-all). However, the right hand ctrl key does.
Is there any explanation for this..? I can trick it by holding down the shift key and pressing what letter i want, then releasing the shift key and it works fine (The ctrl key does not do this though). I have tried changing the language back and forth and checking the keyboard driver but neither worked.
Your keyboard is dying a slow death. One of the first things to go wrong with a keyboard is sticky keys. After sticky keys comes unrecognized keys. Last but not least certain keys simply stop working. Take your laptop to a computer shop for diagnostics. If you've spilled something into the keyboard that might affect the key functioning try this; dump some distilled water directly into the key board and let it completely dry out for about 3 days. Don't worry, distilled water will not rust anything. Hopefully you'll be ablle to recover your keyboard's functionality.
actually its not that, its more than likely the accessiblity options, on a microsoft OS click start, settings, control panel, then double click the accessibility icon, then under filter keys click settings, and click the box to clear it where it says use shortcut, then restart ur system and all should be fine

er...yes, but all laptops have a PS/2 Keyboard/Mouse port in which they can plug a PS/2 keyboard in. This is worthwhile, but not for the mobile user
Actually my laptop doesnt have a PS/2 port.. I tried the suggestions above to no luck... I am not planning on pouring distilled water onto the keyboard cos if anything goes wrong thats alot of money down the drane... Im going to buy a brand new USB keyboard.
Some makes dont have PS/2 ports as you now see I bought my laptop about a year ago and this one has no PS/2 either I just use USB, well preferably I just use my computer never fails me

my laptop is just over three years old... anyway, I have bought a new keyboard. Its a slimline one which feels like notebook keys and it wasnt much... plus I have a proper number keypad thank god. cheers for your help anways.
