M$ Auto Update.. ARG!!

Okay, if anyone can help me with this I would very much appreciate it: How do I disable Microsoft Auto Update. It gets by my Zone Alarm even though I have it locked out ( don't allow ). To me this is an intrusion and I don't appreciate that. If I want an update I'll ask for one. So please if anyone here knows how... I can't wait to find out.
You know what I'd like to do with this Auto Update thingie...

I did a search at google too before I posted and the results looked exactly like yours! Unfortunately most of them have to do with ICQ which I don't use or even know how to. I posted because...
... I knew I'd get a good answer and I just didn't have time to browse through all the links.

Hi there wontgetlost...been a while and I feared that you DID get lost ! Yep, still around...wouldn't say "lurking" though...lol. With 522 posts (2nd in top 10 posters)...been pretty active .


As to your question; try going to control panel -> System -> Automatic updates tab -> select "Turn off automatic updating. I want to update my computer manually. The above is for XP. If you cannot do it that way, try searching "Help" for "Windows Update" and the results should include instructions on how to disable it. Good luck .

I found it and it's disabled now. I can rest easy now knowing Mr. Bill isn't crawling around in my computer LOL!
