Can anyone recommend a good PHP tutorial?

Hello again all. You've probably seen posts from me already in the PHP forum, usually to help me sort out a problem I've had with some code I've not written myself and I'm having trouble getting it to work. Thanks to those that have helped me, by the way.

But I think its time I got out of the pram and learned to walk : Can anybody recommend a decent place to learn PHP from the ground up? I've Googled on this subject and found lots of scary confusing things that make me want to turn off my computer and lie down in a dark room. Hopefully if I find somewhere good and start to learn PHP I'll be spending more time on this forum answering threads instead of posting new ones.

That's more of a reference than a tutorial though.

If you haven't much programming experience, I recommend you get a decent foundation with Javascript as this is easy to experiment with (if you use a browser with decent error reporting). I used WebMonkey to learn that and it also has some PHP tutes as well.

I quite like www.phpfreaks.com, but there is only so far they can take you and the tutorials tend to be quite haphazard rather than planned out as a learning resource.

Still lots of useful stuff there though
