multiple people on web page at same time

What i am trying to do is make a web page for my Fantasy Football league. So far i can make the web page look the way i want. The problem i am having is it works for only 1 person at a time. What i want is to make it so 12 people can be on the web page at the same time(including have a small area for a chat area). I am not even sure if Java is can do this, it might be another language i need to learn to make this. If anyone knows any books or web sites where i can find more info on how to do this, i would greatly appreciate it.

I am fairly new to programming, only basic HTML but willing to learn.

Thank you
Ron

hehehe ...

the irony is, to do what he wants will entail proper Java, not JS, even tho he thinks Javascript is Java.

as a basic HTML-coder, it is likely to be beyond him. if you can't code JS at any level, then you're not likely to be able to code Java at a high end one.

rgantchi: you could give it a try - Java coding, that is - but you're in the wrong forum for a start. you want to ask this in the Java forum, not this one. this is for Javascript (JS) which isn't Java.

however, wot you're asking for is really advanced. there might already be plugins or applets you can get for your website which will do what you're asking for. but because of the level of coding need to accomplish it, they might cost you. the free stuff is usually for pointless and annoying graphical FX applets.

good luck anyway

The key to Java is what they call Classes, and a highly rigid syntax structure that must be memorised perfectly. To answer your question about the chat room thing, yes, i have seen examples of chat room applets. Java is a highly complex programming language that is both server side, and client side.

But all in all, i would agree with the above that perhaps you should learn JavaScript before you jump into something like Java. I say this because JavaScript does embody universal programming concepts that are common to most object oriented programming languages.

...knowledge can never make up for a lack of social graces...on any level.

Welcome to the forums, rgantchi!

There are a lot of talented programmers here. If you give a more detailed description of what you are trying to accomplish, perhaps someone will be able to help you...
