Installing SSL

This is probably more of an Apache question but I'm going to give it a shot anyway.

What would it take for me to get SSL working on my development machine? I have an SSL certificate installed on the web server that hosts my site, I'd like to get my certificate installed and working on my development box if possible.

My main issue is when writing scripts that send headers I have to write them to send HTTP headers (as opposed to httpS); this is so everything works in development. When I get ready to upload I basically use DreamWeaver to find and replace http with httpS. This works but I know it isn't right. So if anyone can help I'd appreciate it.

BTW I'm running Apache 1.3.27
