what verion of windows?

i have my choice of xp, 2000, and 98 second edition. which to you prefer? i'd rather not have xp.

98 is definitely out of the question. Don't even accept that as an option.

I use XP at home and 2000 at work. XP blows 2000 away as far as stability. I recommend XP. Many people don't like it because of the new look or whatever. I don't necessarily like new things but I was very impressed with XP. It's hard to impress me.

I use 2000 and have never had any stability problems (knock on wood). I installed XP on my friends computer and updating all of the drivers and peripherals was a real pain. I would recommend 2000.

I would say 2k, just because I have negative impressions of XP Pro memory dumping me once a week or so.

Of course, I ultimately prefer SuSE 8.0 Linux, but I use whatever the time calls for...

I don't know what your doing but I agree with the others, Win2k is better. It's never been more than rock-solid while I've had problems with WinXP.

FYI to all you Win2k users, SP3 came out for Win2k.

XP is a much better experience when your PC was designed to work with it well. If you try and install XP on your existing machine you will probably get a bad taste in your mouth. I bought a new high end gateway with everything already compatible. I have a machine at work running win2k with a 2Ghz processor with 1Gb of memory and it runs okay. My machine at home running XP also has a 2Ghz processor with 1Gb of memory and it runs much faster and has yet to crash. I've had it for 6 months now. I don't particularly care for MS products and windows has never impressed me until XP.

I used them all and prefer Windows XP, which is what I'm on now. The reason why I didn't like 2k that much was because it is a more business oriented OS meaning it was sort of over kill for my computer. I'm using XP Professional and some of the great things about it is good as a home and business OS. It has compatibility with almost everything, including old and new games, which 2k does not support all of. It also has some pretty useful new features and is of course stable.

As far as the new look goes, it turned me off originally, but after about a week of working with it I adjusted well and now prefer it, its much more sleek and easier to get around -- despite some minor quirks... basically it trying to be "too" user friendly.
