Detecting existence of forward browser history

Hi,
I am trying to detect if the user has browsed to a page using the back button or followed a link. The purpose for this is that I have a control that needs to repopulate if they use the back button and load empty if they hav followed a link (no fwd history). I'm fine for the control part, just having problems detecting if there is anything in the fwd history.
Thanks for the help.
Matt
