Overclocking to ~4GHz

There was a thread about "us" (Finns) and someone replied he knows Finnish people are tough overclockers. Well, here at Assembly (demo parties) two local guys went to the maximum. They overclocked their system to 4.029Ghz with liquid nytrogen.

Rumours tells that after overclocking to ~4Ghz, they started to play Windows Solitaire with it.

One of the coolest pc pics I've seen in a long time :

Wouldn't some of that evaporating liquid nitrogen eventually condense a little on the components?
:: vaguely remembers reading an article on overclocking pc's with liquid nitrogen... ::

It's not that amazing. I mean the Pentium 4 core can be designed up to 10GHz if Intel wished to keep the P4 around that long. So until once they reach that theortetical maximum with the P4 core, they'd have to design a new CPU core.

humm, LN2 + 2.8P4 (as mouse has a heart attack after hearing that I decided on a P4 system) ehehehehehehehe. But air cooling is much safer, oh well...

Not bad, didn't know 2.8's were available...

I'm still using a 1.8a haven't changed it in over 6 months The most I've overclocked it to with good stability is 2.47 but I can't be bothered with the fan noise and watercooling is still just an expense I can't justify.

The thing with LN2 is that it's temporary, overclocking is all about etting stable high speeds not making a machine boot at the highest possible. Still I remember when - another Finnish dude no doubt - sent the first Northwood to 3.7Ghz, probably the first time anyone took notice of the P4 in overclocking circles.

Notice Intel did this same test - ish - but only use watercooling, just shows what the core is capable of.

pleh. [H]ardOCP 4 life. yes, jkd, the Liquid N will cause some condensation. unfortunately, if you want ANY kind of extreme OC'ing, you have to go with a liquid cooled solution of some type.

My next goal:
OC a comp and keep it stored at 0K.

not really.

Assuming you can violate the laws of thermodynamics, your entire pc will be a super conductor!
Think about the energy savings .

I saw an experiment once where a metal ring was coole with liquid helium, an electric current was added for a short time, this then continued to run around the ring for several minutes.
A problem with using LN2 is cooling other bits such as the clock generators, resistors and caps on the board too, you've got to to make a kind of clay cup with a cold plate to pour the nitrogen into.

Yeah and isn't 0 degrees kalvin absolute zero? If it isn't the computer wouldn't functions because the electrons wouldn't move.

Just a little FYI - It's Kelvin and absolute zero is unattainable .

I almost attained it just after I got my new Ray-Ban© sun glasses, but it wasn't quiiite "Absolute" though ... .
