Is there like a international domain name organization or something you have to register with? when you sign up for a domain name registration who is that company registering it with? i'm setting up my own web server and i'm not going to have someone else register my domain name for $50 a year.... sue me. i want to cut through the middle man.

Unless you can afford a few hundred dollars a year for .com .net and .org selling license, and then anotherlump sump for all the other domains, then I suggest going with another registrar. I use http://www.enom.com http://www.123-reg.co.co.uk and http://www.xreg.co.uk

Using a 3rd party to register the domains will work out alot cheaper, as you'd need to sell hundreds of domains to get your money back from the licences, and there's no way you can fit all those onto a single server

i need a license to sell to buy my own? who do i buy my own from? who is all this stuff be registered with?

You need to register with nominet for /com /net and /org domains, and I can't remember who it is for the uk domains. If you go to the sites I mentioned above, you can get domains for like $8
