For starts you could really use some graphics. People look at a site and want the pictures to tell them what the site is about right away with out any words ever being read to start off.
The menu could be jazzed up by doing something like a fade effect.
You could also add little icons along site the different menu topics along the side of the website.
Lots of different menu options out there and worth while to explore your options to make it stand out more.
