CSS Menu issue with doctype change...
Hi,
I admit to not knowing much about various doctypes, but I've been using:
Code:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">
I then used a cssmenu I downloaded and the above doctype works great for firefox, but not IE. In IE there is no menu visible at all and the place where it should be seems much taller than it should be.
If I replace the doctype with the one that comes with the cssmenu, it works. Here is this one:
Code:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
I think I was using the doctype from w3schools that I found. Should I just switch to the cssmenu one? What downsides are there to doing this? Is there something I can do to make the cssmenu compatible with the 4.01 one? Here is the css from the cssmenu:
Code:
#cssmenu ul,
#cssmenu li,
#cssmenu span,
#cssmenu a {
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
position: relative;
}
#cssmenu {

Hi there alank2,
this...
Code:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">
...is a partial dtd and sends IE into "
Quirks Mode ".
Whereas this...
Code:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"
"http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
...is a full dtd and IE will render it in "
Standards Compliance Mode ".
